im curious if clamping a wrist strap to the grounding pin on the power cord (while its unplugged from the electrical outlet of course but still connected to the laptop) would "ground"/equalize the charge between me and the laptop?
i would normally assume this would work but there is a power brick between the part of the cable you plug in and the cable that plugs into the laptop so im thinking maybe it wont work.
i need to install some ram and i havent opened it up yet but from some videos ive seen there isnt any obviously exposed metal parts of the chassis. im used to doing this with desktops where it is easy to find a place to "ground" but never with a laptop.

Pretty easy to test. Take a ohm meter and with the cable unplugged from the wall and the laptop check the ground against the side going into the laptop. Could be the ground is connected to what is commonly called a ground on a dc power connection.

You should be able to connect to the dc ground side in the machine if you take it apart.
