the last home for the faq on this group was we-ink.com but the page has
moved since 1999 or so.

There was a faq that listed a site owned by the we-ink folk but it's
long since defunct.

I had no idea you were a stickler for ng etiquette. If you see any
other faux pas by anyone, including yourself, please let us know.
And we will be watching you . . .

Well now I hate SPAM as much as the next guy, but I am curios when this
became a moderated group and when you were appointed moderator?

So glad that you are intent on observing and enforcing rules on this NG.
This is certainly a most welcome turn of events. You and others who are SBC
customers will be interested, therefore, in knowing and observing the letter
and intent of the SBC Yahoo! Terms of Service (TOS), some quoted excerts of
which follow. For those who subscribe through other ISP's I am certain that
they have similar terms of service. The notation, "...", indicates that
text was removed that was superfluous and does not alter the meaning or
intent of the TOS. If you wish to review the entire document you can google
the following heading and read it in its entirety.

SBC Yahoo! Terms of Service

1. MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT
The following Terms of Service ... are between you, the SBC Internet
Services company providing your Internet Access Service ... and Yahoo! Inc.
.... These TOS constitute a legal document that details your rights and
obligations as a member ...of SBC Yahoo! Dial, SBC Yahoo! DSL, and/or SBC
Yahoo! High Speed Internet Access (each referred to as the "Service"). All
Members must accept these TOS as a condition of membership to the Service.
For purposes of these TOS, "you" means the Member Account holder and each
Sub Account holder or either of such account holders as the context
requires.

9. MEMBER CONDUCT
You agree that you will NOT use the Service to:
(a) upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content
(as defined below) that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive,
harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of
another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise
objectionable...

16. TERM AND TERMINATION
Termination for Cause. SBC Yahoo! may immediately terminate all or a portion
of your membership or suspend any or all individual Member's access to all
or a portion of the Service, without notice, for conduct that SBC and Yahoo!
believe is: (a) illegal, fraudulent, harassing or abusive;(b) a violation of
these TOS, any policies or guidelines posted by SBC Yahoo! on the Service
(including the AUP); or (c) harmful to other users, Members, third parties,
the Service, or the business interests of SBC Yahoo!

Of particular interest to the members of this NG are admonitions to not
transmit abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, or libelous
material. By your agreement with your ISP or broadband carrier, you do not
have the absolute right to express yourself, harass or respond abusively to
others, or make libelous statements.

As you ask others to follow the rules, so you should also comply.

Since Measekite is now the new moderator in charge net etiquette we all need
to support him in this role. I'm sure he always wants to play by the rules
and understands what happens when those terms of service are violated.
Paragraph 9 MEMBER CONDUCT item (a) is one that I'm sure he will want to
strictly abide by. Let's be supportive of him in his new role and if we see
someone violating the TOS it is entirely appropriate for a user to report
such violations to the users ISP. For SBC and it's subsidiaries which
includes PacBell (Measekite's ISP) that would be abuse@sbc.com. I'm sure Mr.
Measekite will be more than appreciative of our support in helping rid this
newsgroup of spammers, profanity and trolls who dishonestly change the
wording of the posts from other users.
