If I'm looking to buy 16GB (4x4 GB memory modules) can i buy two individual 2x4 GB kits and put them together? Or do I have to buy a 4x4 kit?

I'm financially strained right now and can't afford to buy a 170+$ memory kit, so it would be much better for me to buy two 2x4GB kits individually.

I'm looking for 3200MHz Cas16 288-pin DDR4 with a red or RGB lightning kit.

This is exactly what I'm looking for, but newegg is out of stock. Is there anyplace else I might be able to get it? And is it compatible with an ASUS Maximus IX Hero Z270 motherboard?

Solution
You can get a 16gb kit of red geil Aries or patriot viper for not much more than $100.while aesthetics are nice I would never put them at the expensive of price or performance when on a tight budget.
That ram doesn't have led lights mate.

Regarding mixing /matching 2 seperate kits .
Works most of the time - not guaranteed though.
With stuff like the gskill then do tend to stick to the same nand so chances are better than average.

Do you really need 3200 ram - makes little difference to performance on Intel chipset & there's a price premium.

$127 for 16gb & has red led's.

I have never understood the appeal of LEDs on RAM.

You can mix and match somewhat, I would make sure you make sure your second set is the same brand and series as the first. That should certainly minimize your chances of issues.

Nothing is certain though. If you have chronically bad luck, you might just go cheap-as-comfortable now and get better stuff when you can afford it.
