About recent high-end graphics cards such as 5850 with low res

Curious, even though it is said that it's not needed for something like 5850 for a low res such as 1280x1024, wouldn't it be useful in the long run though, like when more gpu grinding games get made this would be able to play a wider range of newer games like a year more than something such as 275gtx or 4890 at that res therefore making it still useful and worth its price even for such a low res? Already I'd probably get a 275gtx but the possible longetivity of the 5850 and dx11 is luring me there even though there's 1280x1024 and a e6850 cpu bottleneck and maybe a little bit worse performance due to PCI-E1.1 too.

For your resolution there is not point in using a 58xx monster. My advice to you is to buy a 5770 when it launches. You will have the best of 2 worlds : Dx11 card with 58xx performance at that resolution + CPU power. And also waaaayyy lower power consumption compared to 275gtx or 4890.

Performance of 5770 will be close if not greater than the cards you mentioned. Plus it is a Dx11 card. And has extremly low power consumption. Believe me, my 4870 managed to consume in 1 year its current price...

Heh, but wouldn't the 5850 last longer at this low res, as in if a game came out way later but got low fps on those cards, it'd still have a better chance on the 5850 or would those same games give no real fps boost? Cause I intend on keeping the next card for quite a while before I get a whole new pc. Just the way I thought of things, since it being more powerful I thought it'd be able to survive more games as they come out until it eventually sucks for a new game at that res.

58xx cards are intended for higher resolutions. At your lower resolution the 5770 will last you some time being almost equal in performance with the 5850 from my guesstimate. With a monitor with 1680x1050 or higher resolution the 5850 will last you more.
