I only have one of the spring screws and I'm not sure where I can get them in person so what other type(s) of screws can I use to screw the heatsink onto the motherboard?

^ Is that method safe/reliable? I can make a quick drive to Home Depot for some mounting putty
(I have thermal paste)

^ It looks identical to this

I would just use thermal paste. It's tried and true for chipsets. Vaseline is just not meant for conditions like this, and the putty may not hold, meaning your heatsink could fall off at any moment.

As for holding on the heatsink, try using zip-ties. It might look really ghetto, but you can get a good bit of tension using them and you don't need to worry about your heatsink falling off later. Plus they're non-conductive, so it's peace of mind all around.
