The mobo I was looking at for my AM3+ CPU says it is SLI but doesn't say anything about Crossfire and my GPU is the R9-270 so will a Crossfire GPU work on a SLI mobo?

Solution
Both of those boards support CrossFire and the M5A99X EVO R2 supports SLI too.

If a motherboard supports sli, then it should support cf.
Some motherboards do not pay the nvidia license fee for sli and so only support cf.
Verify this by checking your motherboard detail specs or the user manual.

Past that, I think the need for more graphics power is better addressed by replacing with a single stronger graphics card.
