About the Radeon HD 4870 1G

Ok so, i really want this card, but i don't know if it'll either fit or i'll be able to actually use it. Now, this card does take up two PCI - Express slots, but that is no concern of me. Right now, i have a 9600gt 512mb and i thought that card was huge. So if i replace the 9600gt , will the radeon hd card be able to fit in my computer? I have no clue if the latter gpu is bigger or not. Another question is that, if i have 1 pci e connector, will the card run fine ? Keep in mind i have a 500W power supply.

what kind of case do you have? which 500 watt power supply. i do belive that all the 4870 cards require 2 pcie 6-pin connectors. i'm not sure if there are any single 6-pin only cards.

I can't really tell what case i have. All it says is "Elite" and on the top it says "Cooler Master." i have a zumax 500 watt power supply

unfortunely it only has one 6-pin pcie cable and the 4780 requires two pcie 6pin cables.

now you have two options, either get a new power supply that supports 2x6-pin pcie ( gonna cost you around 60-80 dollars);or try our luck by purchasing 4-pin molex to 6-pin pcie power adapter. i can't guerentee that the card will be stable at high power loads during gaming. 500watts is a little low. i don't know what the rest of yuor system is like so it's even harder to speculate.

Once you have two free molex power connectors, you would be able to use adaptors to power the video card.

Depending on how many amps on the 12V rail(s) the power supply provides, you should be ok. It should be stated on the side of your power supply.

In reference to your case, you should be ok, but if you could supply a model number or a picture, we would be able to give you a more precise answer.

The 4870 1G that I have, (sapphire, based closely on reference design) extends to the edge of the MB and the two pcie connectors come out about 2.5 Cm further than that taking wiring into account. Had Sapphire used top edge connectors for the pcie connections I would have been happier, but it fits in my case (barely).

Cheap prices get cheap performance. Personally, I'd spend the bikkies to get a good PSU that won't fry my MB, RAM and GPU when it decides to take a dump. Oh, wait... I did. I got a Seasonic for my most recent build.

Other good brands, in no particular order, are PCP&C, Corsair, some of the Antecs.

Generally, the video card will come with at least one power adapter.

So.... should i buy the 680 watt + the Sapphire 4870 ? No1s really giving me a clear answer =x.

so if you're saying it comes with another adapter, and i already have 1 adapter from my 9600gt, will i be fine from there on ? I just need to connect that to my power supply to my gpu rite?
