I have ordered the Q6600 (stepping unknown but hopefully (more like please pretty please) GO) and the P5Q Deluxe.
I really battled to choose which CPU but decided on the Q6600 with a TRUE + AS5 (hopefully with 1 or 2 fans running only at 5v should be enough cooling and less noise)and plan to run it at about 3-3.2 Ghz. I multitask mickey mouse stuff and sometimes listen to streaming audio etc. and like to game quite a bit. Nothing hectic at all, just for browsing and fooling around(except for gaming). Hopefully I wont have to upgrade mobo etc. till i7 is settled down and pricing is affordable.
I live in South Africa, with todays high of about 31 degrees celcius. My current case heats up to 52 degrees (PSU temp) hence I have ordered the Antec 900.
I am upgrading from a three year old PC Gigabyte GA-8N SLi. Just to give you an idea where i am coming from.
The current CPU is P4 640 running at stock at 3.2Ghz. I am expecting a huge improvement.
Anyway, back to the reason I have posted this, I have read many forums regarding the OC of my new parts, however, most people have Q9450/Q9550.
I am really being careful here, I don't want to do something stupid and I need someone to show me the ropes wrt OC'ing this particular CPU/Mobo combo to reach my 3-3.2GHz target (which by what I have read should be a walk in the park) just by increasing VCPU and VDimm.
I will be using Corsair 800MHz 2*2GB XMS2 DHX CL4.
Please let me know if I am worrying to much but i nearly blew my old mobo (just damaged two sata ports which cannot be used for RAID anymore but good for normal sata activity(hopefully never to be repeated). I am just being overly cautious now.
Besides my mobo/cpu/ram I will be using the other components to a point including my old 7950GX2.
I plan to get a decent 4850 with the thermal design where it spews some heat out the back of the case or possibly a 4870 depending how I feel and what monitor I end up getting(?resolution). ATM using 1280*1024 19".
