Hello,

I have never built a rig from scratch but I have decided it is time to try. This is what I have bought. Please let me know if there is something I am forgetting or if I should change anything. It would have to be a really big change since I have already purchased these things but I am willing to listen.

windows Vista 64bit

Purchased the Scythe Mugen-2 CPU cooler $50 (I am not sure if I need this since I am going to only be doing slight overclocking. 3.2Ghz or so. Would the cooler that the processor comes with be alright? Will this be too big for my case and it is heavy?)

I can not be a heavy gamer but love playing games when possible. We will be using this for word processing, video editing, internet, and the games.

Thanks for the help. :thumb

Well its a nice setup...
If you are getting both the mobo and the RAM for $370, then its ok...
As for the PSU, the 750 can handle the SLI easy and still have headroom for further upgrades as well(though 3-way SLI would be a doubt)...
Get the 22" or above as soon as possible to see the full glory of your h/w performance...

You have forgotten common sense .

An expensive cpu and very expensive motherboard , fitted with a midrange gfx card that would be maxxed out by cpu/mb combos costing half as much connected to a tiny monitor

For the same money you could have build a decent gaming computer that included a 22 or larger monitor

 I had thought the same too...but why to spoil the man's wish...
Actually you could go with an i7 config + a 22" monitor for the cash that you are spending on that setup...

Thanks for the info guys. I went with the more expensive MOBO because the RAM came with it free in a shell shocker deal. So I figured it was like getting $100 off.

I was on a budget and I thought I could later get another GTX 260 do SLI. I have heard and read that that is better then the GTX280 anyway and about the same cost. Besides, I may do a bump up to the GTX 275 with the EVGA program.

I wanted to do the i7 because I figured it had better longevity then other processors. I will not be able to do another build for about 5-6 years. Wife wont allow it you know.

Anyway, thanks for the advice and when I do another one I will be asking for your help.

Hey the system specs are very good...and yes the mobo deal is really worth it...
We just thought it would have been better to get a build with a 22" or so...so that you can bring out the full potential of the setup...
And you can always get a better monitor later ;)
Have a good time with that wonderful build... :sol:

Next time ask before you buy, it's more useful that way :)

You can do SLI with the 750TX and two GTX 260 cards. It's a bit too close to the PSU's max, but it will work.

Yes that burner can write CDs too.

I think the cooler you got will fit in the Antec 902. It's only 2 mm taller than the TRUE 1366, and that one does fit in the Antec 902.

Yeah I will ask before I build next time. The MOBO/RAM combo was a 1 day deal so I kind of jumped the gun on it. Hindsight is 20/20 but I think it will work out.

It is great to have the comments and as I put this together I may be seeking more advice. Thanks for the help.

I forgot to add that I have a very average speaker system. It gives me the sound in Stereo and that is about it. That will be added later after the bigger monitor.

Thanks for catching it though.

I am now in the middle of my build. I bought a PCI-e IEEE 1394A card so that I would have a Firewire but it is a PCI-e x 1 attachement. My Asus P6t6 MOBO has a slot for it but it says that it is for PCI-e x 4. I dont want anything bad to happen to my MOBO so would this work in that slot? I hope I have explained that enough. I am not real good with all the lingo. Does anyone know what PCI-e with a Firewire I could get and if it has an internal connector for eSata that would be a bonus. Off of NEWEGG would be the best, if possible.

I also have the Antec 902 case that has a eSata plug in in the front. It doesnt seem like this MOBO has a place for an internal eSATA attachment. Is this correct? I know it has eSata connections in the back.

On a side note I was really excited about getting this i7 and I thought it would be great to have since I figured it would be the processor for a long time. Now I am hearing that it is a waste of money because the i5 is coming out and the 775 would be better. Sheesh, talk about a downer. Dang computers going out of style so quick. Makes me lose my mind on this. :fou:

Just a little venting by me.

i5 is just the consumer-oriented side with a different socket. 1366 is road-mapped for 4 years out from today I believe so you are in fine shape even when the 32nm stuff comes out
