about windows 8 installation

hi guys,i just bought the windows 8.1 dvd. so when i put in my com and run it,it says its not a valid Win32 application.my com right now is a windows xp sp3 32bit.but how am i supposed to upgrade to windows 8 if it says its not a valid Win32 app.im kinda sad now.i already run the windows 8 advisor b4 i bought the cd and it says all compatible.mine is core 2 duo.so my qns is how am i supposed to get the windows 8 dvd to run.

Boot from the DVD instead of your hard-drive. When you first start your computer it should briefly say "Press (key) to enter setup." Press the key it says, go to boot options in your bios, and choose the DVD drive.
