BloodyDream3 :
This is just for fun, put together the absolute best possible gaming set up and post it. Pretty simple. There is no budget at all, just put together the best of the best.
BloodyDream3,
A fun project, to try and work out the best solution regardless of cost. And, when imagining ways to spend someone else's money- always ask an architect!
Follows is a quick idea for an ultimate gaming system that uses a successful, but fairly conventional processor / motherboard that takes advantage of GPU acceleration in the form of an outboard GPU enclosure that extends the number of PCIe X16 slots. the alternative was to use a multiple CPU board as another way to extend the PCIe rails available, but as the Nestor outboard GPU modules adds the calculation power, it saves about $35,000 in Xeon E7 10-core processors. The disk system is based on a 480GB OCZ Revodrive 3 X 2, an LSI Logic SAS RAID controller, and 5X Western Digital SAS HD's in RAID 5.
Components that seems minimized or neglected in these ultimate build threads are the monitor and especially the sound system. In this idea, there is more expenditure on the monitor and sound system than the CPU/GPU. There's always a fuss about having several high-benchmark graphics cards, but it seems all those pixels shot out the cannon go to 27" 1980 X 1080 monitors. Not Good enough! In this idea, the Planar 84" monitor runs at 3840 x 2160. This would obviously need a situation where the gamer sits about 12' away. Sound too, is important, and in an earlier thread, a poster though I was a wasting money on an $85 dedicated sound card. However, in my view, the sound ought to be a great thundering sound. There is a 7.1 channel AV receiver powering 6X floorstanding speakers -2X Front, 2X Side, 2X Rear, 2X Subwoofers with built-in 300W amplifier,
and a single Center.
Several aspects of this idea are not fully addressed, especially component cooling.
Besides gaming, this should be a good video editing station and in moderate GPU accelerated supercomputing applications>

-And if it was being used for CAD, the background music would be of higher than average office quality,..
