Hey guys

I've spent the last week reading forums about getting stable FPS on AC origins

I have above recommended specs for the game but the dips are so bad, My console experience was better.

R9 290X tri X oc edition
AMD FX 8350
8GB ram

I suspected my proccesor to perform like balls, but I didnt expect the FPS to dip to the 10's in taxing areas.

I was expecting at least a stable 30 fps on medium or high.

I'm seriously considering upgrading to an i7 7700k or that new fancy 6 core i5. But it's hella expensive in my country so I just want to be sure.

is AC Origins the problem or is it my 5 year old system?

Solution
Yeah I suspect it's mainly your CPU causing the problem. On my prior i7-950 (stock), 7970, 8GB RAM rig I could run AC Origins on mostly Med settings with a near 50 FPS average.

In the below YouTube AC Origins bench on a FX-8350, 280X (same as my 7970), and 8GB RAM on Low settings averages only 44 FPS. That would translate to low 30s in rural Alexandria, low 20s in the heart of Alexandria, and probably dip to the teens in the heart of the city during combat with multiple foes.

What country are you in btw? Maybe I can find a better deal on a good CPU.

well dammit, i was thinking of Just upgrading my GPU since its cheaper than upgrading my cpu which would include Getting a Mobo and Ram..

im looking at an i7 8700.. it costs a whopping $400 here... an ASUS strix mobo's about $200...
and God knows how much DDR4 ram sticks cost today...

I'm from Philippines.any kind of tech is really pricy round deez partz cuz they're all imports from halfway across the globe...

btw sorry for downvoting your comment. dnt know how to reply in these forums and clicked it by mistake. XD.

Probably some better options for your situation...

i5-8600 - $240 equivalent
https://pcx.com.ph/product/intel-core-i5-8600-processor-9m-cache-up-to-4-30-ghz/

ASUS TUF Z370 Plus - $172 equivalent

G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8GB 2400 - $172 equivalent
https://pcx.com.ph/product/g-skill-ripjaws-v-16gb-2x8gb-ddr4-2400mhz-memory/

Comes to $584 USD equivalent, and those parts are plenty good. Just hang onto the 290x until you can afford to upgrade it. It will still be plenty good enough for Med to High settings in the toughest of games.

thanks man.. think I'll give it a shot.
it just bothers me why i keep finding the FX8350 in most modern games' reccomended specs. it doesnt even run most of them well.

it was a severe bottleneck on my GPU eversince the day I got it.

btw which do you think would be a better option i7 8th gen or i5 8th gen?
i heard the i5 has six cores which would be awesome for my video editing activities.
dont know what the i7 has to offer..

i7 only gives you HyperThreading and a slight increase in base and Turbo Boost clock speeds. HyperThreading does nothing for all but a few games, and even in those it's not very noticeable. i7 is kinda a luxury for those whom also do a lot of video editing and multitasking, which is where the virtual cores help, but most games don't benefit from them.
