ac wi-fi vs N wi-fi. I'm confused!

I've been hearing about this new ac wi-fi technology. And I was wondering since my actual Internet speed (limited by isp) is only 40mb/s how would an ac router help me if my n-router already gets about 35mb/s download? Will it help my ping because I use wi-if to game and everything else because...well... I can't get an Ethernet cord to my pc. (don't ask I just can't because of where everything is positioned) so anyway how will an ac-router be faster than an N-router if my download is capped at 40mb/s? Will it get me better ping or something also? (My current router is a netgear n600, it has 5ghz and 2.4ghz) yes my router is a bit old, but I was just wondering the benefits of an ac-router compared to an N-router. Will I get better download or something somehow, maybe better ping?

No, you won't get a better download. An ac vs n router might only help in transferring files between systems inside your LAN.
Outboard of your router, it's all about the ISP.

If your internet speeds are what you say (which doesnt look right), then no, you would not benefit in a significant way, unless you really wanted that 5mb/s. all ac is is faster speeds, but you can only go as fast as your isp. unless you were streaming between devices on the same router or something (both would have to be able to utilize the ac freq)

And yes I'm sure the speeds I get 35mb/s down and I pay for 40mb/s down. But I can't complain, I get basically the same speed than my other friend that pays for 50mb/s down. plus my ping is decent at 10ms on average of tested on speed test.net

Nothing to be confused. WIFI speed has increased with each generation from B to G to N and now to AC, but that's your LAN speed, you are still limited by Internet speed paid to your ISP. No matter how powerful your engine is, if the single-lane highway speed is limited to 65, that's as fast you can drive.
