Acceptable hard drive operating temperatures?

I just purchased a Western Digital My Cloud EX2 Ultra NAS and two Toshiba X300 7200 RPM hard drives to put in it. Everything is working fine except the hard drives get very, very hot when copying data to/from them. As in you can't even touch them hot. I also have a My Cloud Mirror NAS with two WD Red 5400 RPM drives inside and they get warm, but not hot and definitely not even close to the Toshibas. In fact, the new EX2 NAS has a fan whereas my original Mirror doesn't.

The My Cloud interface says the drives are at around 60-65 Celsius. I read somewhere these temperatures should never go above 50 Celsius, but I'm not sure if that applies to all hard drives.

Is 60-65 Celsius acceptable for these hard drives? Did I choose the wrong hard drives and I should have gone with WD Red or a 5400 RPM instead? I just didn't want the hard drive speed to be the bottleneck in data transfers.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Solution
Hello rayg73 |, normal operating temperatures range between 5 to 50 degrees Celsius but with newer drives they can reach 60 Celsius and a normal case should provide adequate cooling. If you have doubts, best to contact the manufacture of the drive for guidance.
