Hi everyone,
I just got a new rig. here's the details:
Athlon XP 1.6ghz
512MB pc-2700
Asus a7v333
Thermaltake Volcano 7 fan
120GB WD 8MB cache
Leadtek GF4 TI-4600
There are EIGHT fans running in this system! 2 intake, 2 exhaust, 1 in the PS, 1 on the CPU and 2 on the vid card. so needless to say, its quite loud - but that's ok cause so is the sound system 😉 My question is: what is an acceptable temperature? "Stock" its running at 52 degrees celsius. Is this too high? I hear 32 degrees is ideal, and i'm almost double that with 8 friggin fans!! anyway, after overclocking the FSB to 143/43 my temperature remained the same (52 degrees)and I achieved a clock of 1.71 ghz (not bad!). Since there was no apparent change in temperature, is it safe for me to continue running at this clock? can i go higher? will i fry my cpu??
On another note, I hear that AMD does NOT recommend Volcano fans, as they are very heavy and risk tearing the socket right off the board... Is this a legitimate concern or simply anti-overclocking propaganda? If it IS a potential problem, what are some possible solutions? Can I just anchor the big ass Volcano fan to the power supply?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
