Hi there. So i have a folder in which i do all of my work, that's why it's a google drive folder located in C:\Users\Talo\Google Drive\Facu

The thing is that i also want to back it up into my passport external drive (just in case). I'm using WD SmartWare software to do this. I have no problem in backing up my other files, but i can't get it to backup this google drive folder because it says "Acces denied".

Any ideas into how i can allow acces to that folder? I tried running the WD Smartware as administrator but the same happens.

Thanks in advandce

Hey there, Talo!

I'd recommend you to try taking ownership of that folder. You can refer to this article from the MS knowledge base on how to do that: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753659.aspx
Give it a try and let me know how it goes. However, I'm afraid that you might not be able to see the Google drive in Smartware as a backup source or a backup target. Currently, the SmartWare software supports only Dropbox, thus you can backup the contents from there but I'm not sure if you'd make it work for the Google drive. 🙁

Keep me posted, though.

Hi SuperSoph! Thanks for the quick response. I just checked the post that you mentiones and i do have full acces to that folder and the files that are in it.

I'm using WD SmartWare 1.6.4 (the one that came with the drive) since it allows me to manually select the folders that i want to include in the backup.

That way, i am able to see the Google Drive folder and selecting it as a target for backup. I actually did this without problems with my old desktop computer, but for some reason, it doesn't work on my new ASUS laptop. I'm able to select it as target but then i get that "Acces denied" message for that specific folder.

Hey there again, Talo!

Since having permission and taking ownership didn't help, it might be an issue with Windows 10, unfortunately. I'd recommend you to try reinstalling the Google Drive as a program and see if that will help you gain access.
I'd also suggest you to try cleaning the temporary files and see if that would help as well. You can run some redundant-file-cleaning third-party tools or use these MS guidelines to do it from within Windows OS.

Hope it helps. Let me know how it goes! :)

Apparently, something did help and now it's working.

Under security i tapped on "Enable inheritance". I also disabled the backup and enabled it again, and it worked. Now the folder is backed up on my passport.

Thanks again for your help 😀
