Access video files from my desktop pc (wired) from my android box (wifi from same modem)

So I know its easy to cast video from a laptop on wifi to an android box connected to a tv, but what about if I want to access a video file on my desktop pc which isn't on any wifi, just wired directly to that modem? How do I get my android box to access/play video files on my PC?

Wire your PC to a wireless router (or a switch that is connected to your router) and that should solve you problem. Being attached to the router (or switch connected to wifi router) that serves your wifi will put them on the same network and should make your video files streamable. I do it all the time with my main PC and server with android tablets/phones/smart TV/consoles.

My modem is an all in one modem that gives off wifi. My pc is wired to it, and android box on it's wifi. I just have no idea how to get my android box to be able to access files from my PC. I don't want to play video on my desktop pc and cast it down to the box, I want to be able to use the box to browse video files and play them on my tv, from a specific folder I have designated for that on my pc. Is this possible? I've selected my folder and set it as shared, but not sure how to get to it from my box. It's a basic android 6.0 box.

If everything talks to the same router, either wired or WiFi, there should be no problem.

On the PC, you have to share a folder.
Turn ON File and print sharing on the PC.
On the desired folder, right click and select Share With
Go through all that, and Share with Everyone.
You'll probably also have to turn OFF 'Password Protected sharing'.

Yep, did all that, just wasn't sure how to actually access them and play them from my tv with my android box. I ended up trying out kodi after some searching around, I found it a little annoying to use but finally got it working. I can use it to access and play vid files from my designated folder now. Is there anything better anyone would recommend aside from kodi?
