I would like to access my work network from home, I assume by using VPN that comes with my Windows 7 (64) but I’m not sure how to set this up since my setup at work is relatively simple:

Internet > AT&T Uverse cable modem > Netgear desktop switch > Drobo 5N NAS (& other workstations & printers attached to the switch).

The files I want to access are located on the Drobo, which acts as our simple file server within our small office. Do I just need to “open a port” on the AT&T modem? I’m not sure how to do that. The few people I have asked made it sound quite simple but I don’t know where to start. I’m new to networking..
Thanks..

At this point it is questionable if helping you violates forum rules.
We dont know if you have privledged access to your work network or not or if you are even allowed to access that from home.

You should consult whoever does IT/networking for your work. Just opening the necessry port would be very very bad, you would need to setup a VPN connection which requires a VPN server, router congiured correctly and either a static IP or DDNS account.
