Ok so i need to access a Sandisk SSD Plus hard drive - SDSSDA-120G. I need to recuperate photos from it. I bought a SATA cable that connects via USB and i plug it into the USB port of my desktop computer. The lights both go on. Both the Power and Access lights but i can't see the disc on my computer. I tried to set it so when i plugged it in the computer would ask what i wanted to do with it but i can only see it at the bottom of the desktop to remove it from the computer. Do i need some kind of software to access the disc? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the community, aliwatts!

I'd recommend you go to Disk Management in Windows and check if the SSD is recognized there and how exactly it is detected there. Sharing some screenshots would be helpful as well.
Another thing you could try is simply using a SATA cable to connect the SSD inside the PC to the motherboard (internally). Afterwards, check Disk Management again. Hopefully, the internal connection will give you access to your photos without the need of a third-party data recovery tool.

Keep me posted! Good luck! :)

Ok thanks i can try that. I managed to find software that let me access the hard drive so at least i know the cable works and i can get into the hard drive some way. If i can't recuperate things properly then i will try your idea. If i connect it internally as a second hard drive (in my laptop) do you think it might be possible to boot it up as a second hard drive. There was Windows 10 and a recovery file there as well for Windows 7. Thanks. Alistair

Hello again, Alistair!

Unfortunately, you won't be able to boot from the SSD that contains the operating system of another computer. That Windows 10 OS was used to boot on another computer, I assume, which means you can only boot on that computer. The operating system is tied to the motherboard, the HDD/SSD is just a carrier for the system files. This is why you can't use the same OS with the same activation code on multiple computers.
