Question Accessing modem config page without knowing the IP

I've got a modem from my ISP that basically converts the fiber cable into an Ethernet connection which then goes into my current router. I want to eliminate the modem as I now have a new router with SFP ports but I cannot seem to be able to access the config page of the current ISP modem.

It has a written IP address (192.168.x.x) and admin login details on a label but when connecting directly to it with my computer it does not load the page. I've tried the standard 192.168.1.1 /.0.1 etc but none seem to work.

When listing ipconfig while connected to the modem I see the default gateway as a public IP address (which is similiar to my external IP, except ending in x.x.x.1 rather than x.x.x.4 (my external IP)) instead of 192.168.x.x which I also cannot connect to.

So my question is - is there a way without asking the ISP how I can connect to my modem and copy the settings to my new router or am I forced to connect the router through the modem again. Thanks.

p.s. I have internet when I connect directly to the modem if that's of any use.

Most ISP will not allow you to replace the ONT even if you technically can.

SFP means very little when it comes to ISP. It is highly unlikely they are running gigabit ethernet. It is much more likely they are running gpon. In addition they may be only using a single strand of fiber transmitting on 1 color laser and receiving on another. You would need a lot of information to get everything correct. I suspect there is some kind of mac address in the ONT device to prevent people from hooking up unauthorized devices. What would stop you from splicing into your neighbors fiber and stealing the services for free,

Sign on to your current router, look under WAN.

modem(IP in query) ----> (WAN)Router(LAN)----->

(THIS ONLY WORKS ASSUMING THE MODEM IS NOT IN BRIDGE MODE)

The WAN's GATEWAY is the IP in query.

Sometimes, like the Arris modems, have a specific management IP, have you Googled for the manual?

Thanks for the replies.

I found the modem I'm referring to - https://www.amazon.com/Modem-Fiber-1000Mbps-APT110G-APTTEK/dp/B072PSDKQC

As well as a video showing I assume is the config page for this modem-

I thought it might be like this - that I can't bypass the ISP modem or ONT. I just wanted to confirm since I could not find a way to log into it and I'm sure there must be some way.

p.s. the gateway IP is the WAN settings of the router is the same gateway IP that I see when doing ipconfig directly from my laptop to the modem - and external IP

Is the ISP charging u for the modem, either outright or rent? If you are getting it for free, this may an ISP lock to force you to use their equipment. Why do u want to replace it anyway, it doesn't have VOIP, does it do NAT? if it's a plain modem, is not causing much "damage."
