Accidentally enabled gaming mode on MSI mobo, system won't boot

So as the title states I was in the BIOs making a slight adjustment to my memory clock to OC the CPU and I accidentally switched MSI gaming mode on.

I realized this once I booted and got the yellow text stating I was in gaming mode and that I shouldn't OC or delete or edit CMOS while in this mode. Though I never planned to mess with the cmos at all the system did have the slight OC on it.

It seemed to freeze on that screen and would not boot.

Now I can't even get to the MSI screen or hit delete to go into BIOs.
It just says Entering Setup....
But it never gets past that.

Windows login won't come up either when I'm not attempting to get to BIOs

Also received a Stop code:MACHINE CHECK EXCEPTION

Any ideas?

Yes , ignore what it says & reset the CMOS either by jumper or by removing the battery.

Ok well I can't clear cmos because I can't boot to anywhere not even BIOs menu. Where is this jumper or battery?
I have MSI z170a gaming m3 mobo

lol - - You don't need a bootable PC to clear the CMOS, that's why motherboards have that feature.

You shouldn't be messing with BIOS settings if you don't have a rescue plan like knowing where CLR CMOS or CMOS battery is to get you out of trouble.

your motherboard has a button on the back panel to clear the cmos just below the 2 usb ports.

There's a 2 pin jumper above the second 16 x PCI express a lot.




Remove all power to PC.
Take a small flat blade screwdriver & touch those 2 pins together so it creates a short between them for 10 seconds.
Take case not to touch other components on the board.

Repower up & you should be good.

Removed the battery. All is well, who would have known putting the mobo in gaming mode wouldn't allow me to boot.
I also tried a slight over lock to my base clock of 100.0 to 105.0 and it wouldn't boot with that ether. Had to set back to 100.0. I thought the 6700k could go up to 4.4ghz easy even with air cooler hyper eco 212

You don't use the blck to overclock , you have a k chip & a z series board .
Its a straight multiplier overclock you should be looking at.

OK, when I click OC tab
in my Bios the only value that comes up is the 100.0 which then shows a proportional gain to the CPU clock when I change the value from say 100.0 to 105.0 and then it shows 4.000ghz -> 4.200ghz.

I do not see these multipliers anywhere and IDK where to access them through this MSI gaming BIOS for an z170 M3 mobo.

You need to press F7 to enter advanced mode - you also need to do some research before even considering overclocking .

I have researched and I have a substantial cooler. But I guess I will need to look at for my exact mobo perhaps. But again I have read and people seem to do OC's a few different ways even if they're using the same boards.

If you have a z series board & an unlocked cpu hen you overclock via multiplier.
Blck overclocking is possible & even works well on skylake chips - what cpu are you actually using ??
If you up the blck speed then the chances are you need to downlock the ram first,Raising the Blck changes more than just cpu speed & can casue major instabilities.

Changing the multiplier affects the cpu only ,nothing else - So if your cpu is unlocked its always a far more sensible method.
