Hi, first time builder here.
As everyone makes mistakes i'm not too miffed about what i did, i just want to know if it's going to be an issue. When i made up my parts list on Pcpartpicker, i accidentally selected the Asus - Z170I PRO GAMING Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard instead of the full size version, i didn't notice the "mini" in the title and thought nothing of it. even worse the amazon page for the motherboard doesn't even have "mini" in the title at all, so i was still none the wiser when i bought it. All i want to know is will i still be able to use it without any issues? I tried placing it in the case just to see if it would fit, and everything seems fine, IO shield fits perfectly and all, just a bit concerned about where exactly to put the raisers since the case doesn't seem to match up with the screw-holes, but that could just be me not looking at it right. I can send it back if i have to since amazon is quite nice with returns but i'd prefer to not need to go through the hassle of doing that.
TLDR: bought mini version of desired motherboard, can i still use it or will i have to send it back?
i also have three extra questions if nobody minds,
1, In the part list, this message appeared: "Some Intel Z170 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Kaby Lake-S CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." Does my motherboard need this BIOS Update? i don't know how or where to check for that info.
2, The motherboard came with a DVD titled: "Intel Z170 Chipset Support DVD Rev. 1214.01"
My case doesn't have a Disc Drive bay so i can't exactly use it unless i take the old one from my current PC and just hook it up outside of the case or something (bootleg i know) so do i need to install whatever's on this disc? and do i do it before or after everything's set up? (as in everything is working, windows is installed, etc etc.)
3, the CPU cooler i have is the HYPER 212 EVO, it's absolutely huge, so big in fact it touches the glass panel of the case. Will it be too heavy for the motherboard to hold since it's the mini version? and i did already look this up, and i read that it wouldn't matter, but since it touches the panel will that be an issue at all?
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Alex.
