[SOLVED] Accidentally turned off surge protector now PC won't boot

Specs:

i5 8700k
MSI Z370 SLI PLUS
GTX 1080
CORSAIR - Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB
Two SSD's

As mentioned in the title, I accidentally hit and turned off my surge protector last night while gaming. I noticed a weird smell that seemed to come from the PSU. I replaced the PSU this morning and still will not boot. The lights on the motherboard are not lit either.

Perhaps the motherboard is the next in line?

The board would take the shot first. If the psu lit it up it could have taken the cpu, GPU, and ram as well.

So would you recommend trying out a new motherboard next?

Power failures happen all the time; that is essentially what you caused.
Normally, that is not a problem.
Since there is a smell that came from the psu, I suspect your old psu did not handle the power shutoff well.
Double check that the new psu connectors are well seated.
If you can not find a problem, I suspect your old psu caused some other damage when it failed.

What is the make/model of the old and new units?

The motherboard is the next step. Followed by the GPU. Those are the parts that directly get power from the power supply

Old PSU: Rosewill 750W bronze (Model: HIVE - 750)
New PSU: Corsair CX750M

Unfortunately identification of problems is done by replacing parts.
You hate to buy replacements that are not needed.
You might want to take the parts to a shop where they can confirm that the motherboard or whatever is at fault.

I just ordered a new motherboard so hopefully that will fix it. It will be here tomorrow.

If not, I will consider taking it to the Microcenter near me to see what other parts are damaged since the other components are a bit more expensive.

Replaced the motherboard. The new motherboard lights up.

When booting, the CPU fan spins momentarily (enough to do 1-2 full cycles). I have two sticks of RAM and have tried booting with each one by itself and the same thing happens.

I have not attempted to boot with my graphics card yet.
