Accidentally uninstalled NVIDIA GTX 1060 from Device Manager, forced to use Intel Onboard

Hello community!

Desktop PC
Mobo: Asus Prime B250M-A
GPU: MSI NVIDIA Geforce 1060
CPU: Intel i5- 7400

After failing to upgrade to the newest driver for NVIDIA (due to it saying it needs the most recent Windows version)

My husbands PC has been stuck in this loop of not being able to find the GPU.

I've upgraded BIOS, Windows, and downloaded old NVIDIA drivers, but nothing helps.

I did also make the mistake of deleting it from the Device Manager to do s fresh install, but now I can only use onboard graphics for it all....

It's not hidden, it just seems like the MOBO won't acknowledge it's connected... or that the onboard graphics take priority than the GPU.

I can't access any visuals unless I connect to the onboard though, and there's no option in the bios to make sure the GPU is even being found...

As of now, I just wiped the PC to see if it would "re-find" the drivers with a fresh windows install, but it hasn't...

Any tips or advice on how to proceed from here?

Thank you so much in advance!

Ok. first of all, Open the PC and remove the 1060. Then if able connect it to another PCI-E slot (Not the one you previously used). Once you do this boot in safe mode, use DDU (Driver uninstall tool) if any drivers are still installed.
Then, download ONLY geforce Experience from the Official Gforce Experience Site and then let Gforce experience recognize the card and Download its Drivers.
Fixed.

Cheers!

this happend to me once, it wont recognize it that way. I know this for experience.

Hey guys! Thank you so much for the feedback.

I would have plugged it into another slot if there was one, but on this mobo theres only 1 for the gpu.

As for searching for hardware, Ramlethal was right, and it didn't work that way.

I checked BIOS to set it to PCIE as primary, but it didn't work...

As of right now, I'm going to put it into my PC to test it to make sure it works. I will report back after it's done!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO HELP ME WITH THIS! I'LL UPDATE ASAP!

What is the PSU of your husbands pc?

:C

After all is said and done, after all the troubleshooting.... I just plugged it into my PC and found out it's dead.

Thank you all for trying to help me with this issue, I honestly cannot explain how truly thankful I am that you guys took the time to give your input to help. Hopefully, it's still under warranty!

Best wishes to you all!

As i thought... if your mobo only has 1 PCIE slot you should Dc the card and then remove the battery from the mobo, then wait 5 mins aprox~ and then plug back the battery and the Gtx 1060 in that order.
Then download Geforce experience (even if the device its not shown on the device manager) and it will automatically detect the Card.

Cheers!

Welp, looks like it died then :C too sad to hear it.

No problem.
So the GPU doesn't give any display at all? Are the fans running when it is plugged into your PC?

Ram, I just saw your response. If the card doesn't work in my PC when the steps you told me to do won't work will they?

Either way I just sent in the support ticket, so hopefully it will go through, looks like it's still under a year warranty (I think)?

Also Peter, sorry to be an uncultured swine, is picking a solution the only way to "SOLVE" the forum and close it?

Correct, there's no display at all.

The fans don't run either, but I'm not 100% sure they ran when it was turned on in general, or if they only turn on at certain temps :) Just sent in the ticket, so hopefully it works out!

Oh, so its not dead.
Please try the method i told above. I quite think its not dead at all...

Even if I plugged it into my PC and it still didn't work?

I agree with @Ramlethal. It could be PSU that is causing problems.

That's what my confusion was, because I put it into my PC, and it still didn't work. So I'm assuming it would be pointless to try the suggested plug in batter from mobo, etc???

Thanks! I already got the RMA since it's still under warranty. Figured since it didn't work in mine then it was dead. Thank you again!
