Acer 1440p 144hz Gaming monitor not getting to 144hz

Hi,

So I bought this new Freesync gaming monitor from Acer which has an IPS-display, 144hz and 1440p resolution (Exact model: XF270HUA) BUT, when going through the Nvidia control panel and trying to up the hz's, it only shows 120hz max, and when trying to manually set it to 144hz or even anything else besides the default ones, once I press "Test" the resolution and hz works (1440p@144hz) but it won't save it even though I press save custom resolution.

Why is this? Could it be something to do with my GPU (GTX 660) or my overall system (FX-8350, 970 chipset mobo, etc.)

Are you using the Display Port output from the GPU?

From everything I can tell it should work through the display port. It shouldn't support 120hz via HDMI 1.4a, too much bandwidth, so if it is that is interesting.

Yes, I'm using display port and the cable that came with the display so it should also support 1440p@144hz
I have also checked the display settings and I have it on DP 1.2 mode.

It is possible the cord is 1.1 and cant handle the bandwidth 1440p 144hz needs. It's equivalent to 4k 60hz. Here is a wiki that explains which supports what.

Try setting a custom resolution via the Custom Resolution Utility instead of the NVIDIA control panel.
