Hi,

I have an Acer 6395G laptop and when i first got the laptop the screen was nice and bright, i did notice the brightness had gone down alot since i first got it and compared it too my dads laptop screen as we both have the same laptop and his is way more brighter than mine. I checked the brightness settings and compared them again with my dads and their exactly the same except his screen is much brighter. I tried changing the brightness too and that doesnt do anything.

Do you think the backlight has gone on my screen or something as i dont know whats up with it?

Any help would be great please.

Thanks !

first, try to clean the screen with some soft towel and little alcohol.
make SURE that the brightness setting is on max. don't do it trough the operating system, do it with the buttons on the laptop, manually.
if that doesn't help, try to flash the bios to a newer version. a lot of laptops have sound and vision issues which tend to resolve with a new bios.

Hi,

The buttons on the laptop dont do anything too :-(

FN + Left Arrow Key = Less Brightness
FN + Right Arrow Key = Greater Brightness

But they dont do anything either

The BIOS is the latest version.

What now?

Have you checked your power plan settings, that can drop screen brightness,
Plug the lappy into mains and then select high performance to rule this one out.

Hi,

Yes, i tried that so many times. its on High Performance even when the power plug is out.

What next?

Id go deeper into your power plan settings, within windows and check the screen brightness settings are actually maxed with high performance.

Secondly make sure Acers power management program isnt overriding windows power managment, (mine did this).

If there both ruled out Id be asking have you dropped it, exposed it to high temp, eg sitting in a car on a hot day etc etc.

Worst case and the best way to rule out software problem, transfer all the stuff you want to one of the other onboard drives and reformat c:\ drive. If its still doin it its definitely a mechanical issue.

Hi,

1) already looked into that

2) already looking into that

3) nope never dropped it/left sitting in the sun, only had around 3 weeks

4) too late sent it back last night for them to sort out 🙁

Ah! I've experienced this too. This seems to be some bug somewhere.

After modifying the brightness with FN+Left or FN+Right, it will sometimes only take effect if you turn the screen off and on with FN+F6, by pressing it twice.

Best of luck.

This problem emerges in Acer 6935g if you have installed the newest nVidia drivers version 195.62.

Revert back (or reinstall) to older version 186.81 and the brightness control should work just fine.
