I have found the problem. I plugged two identical tubes into the inverter and it ran continuously for many hours.
Disconecting one would create my fault (a few seconds of run time after being enabled). By using one external and one original and swapping, I was able to prove which tube was likly to be giving me the problem.
I then dismantled the screen to access the original tubes and sure enough one is not working.
I re proved the fact that the two both have to run to keep the light on. At this point I am looking for a local supplier for the 410mm x2mm tubes. I see there is someone on the net selling 3mm tubes, but I'm not sure if they will be as good as the originals.
Also looking to see if I can get a good LED replacement. It would appear that I have found the disadvantage of having such a large screen.
BTW I got an email from Tomshardware to say I have had an answer.

Blowed if I can find it.
