Acer aspire 3680 wireless for vista

I have a 3680 laptop and the internet connection comes and goes. It is gone more than it stays. The only switches I can find are on the front of the laptop and they are slid switches which don't seem to do anything. What should I do to get the internet to work on this computer it has been a problem off and on for 2 years. I am sending this on my sons computer.

make sure you keep within range of the router because if the signal becomes too weak, the connection will keep dropping off. You may be need to invest in a router with a better wireless coverage than the one you currently have.
