Acer aspire 5100 audio

I have an acer aspire 5100 and the audio does not work! i had to reinstall windows xp and format the C drive, so basically lost it all =( My sound doesnt work, i have downloaded and installed the driver from the acer website but still no sound! When i start up my laptop a 'new hardware" message comes up for the PCI device (im guessing for the sound) but i dont have a CD for it. Is this my audio problem? any help would be appreciated!

Perhaps you don't have the correct drivers for your software? Have you checked your list of hardware on Device Manager? What appears with a yellow question mark?
