Hi Forum.

Why is it that all too often the manufacturer's website is the WORST place to get drivers, tech support and updates!? I'm quite weary of it. (Alternative: try and sift thru all the driver install 3rd party vendors who hope you'll fall for their driver/spyware/malware install software...)

Sorry for the rant(!)

Can anybody or even a furry long-tailed simian provide a 'clean' link to a BIOS update for my Acer Aspire 5253-BZ656 laptop? (Yes, I am less intelligent than a lemur....so what can I do, other than ask Tom? I love Tom's Hardware! Best tech support they is! :)

My current BIOS is ver 1.05. My search (4-24-2015) shows the latest version is 1.8...?

TIA,
Balls-On-Chin

Not in my experience it isn't. On the contrary, it's the best place if you know what you're doing, and as for the links being "clean" they are very unlikely to be anything else on the manufacturer's website. I do agree, however, that tech support via their website is often less than helpful, that's why forums like THF exist.

There is no website other than Acer's that you'll get the correct drivers and BIOS updates for an Acer PC, you just need to ensure that you go to the appropriate Acer site that serves your country.

For the UK it's here: http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers

For other countries, go here and choose...
