acer aspire 5515 lost password

So here is the thing. I am trying to reset a password on a 5-7 year old Acer aspire 5515 it is a windows vista. The only problem is I didn't make a back up disc so I went and bought a windows 7 system recovery disc only its not working right and I don't have money to get this laptop fixed. I need help but because I'm not a laptop smart person I'm not sure what to do or what kind of help I need. The laptop has been stuck on the sign in screen for about 5-7 years you know where you see the logo and and then sign? Right well I can't get passed that screen and need help doing that. Please help me and if you understood any of this God bless you.
