CPU upgrade: I currently have an Acer Aspire 7741z-5731 that came with a Pentium P6000. Have done a little digging around and found that my board should have a PGA989 socket and be able to hold any of the G1 and G2 chips (rPGA988A & B). Wondering which are my best few options from these lists or any to stay clear of. Obviously would love to have one of the G2 i7 quads in there but worried about heat, power etc. Thoughts?

Solution
You are going to have to do a bit more research.

Just because a CPU can fit into the socket, it does not mean it will work. The CPU must be recognized by the laptop's BIOS. If the BIOS does not recognize the CPU, then the laptop may not boot at all, or the CPU will run at the lowest speed. You should research what other CPUs have been used in Acer 7741z laptops models.

I really doubt the Acer can handle a quad core i7 CPU because the heatsink is likely not designed to handle the extra heat generated by those CPUs.

It is, I mentioned that in my post.
