Okay so I'm just about tearing my hair out here as I can't seem to stop my laptop from burning up.....

Basically I've got an Acer Aspire 5742, Core i5, 6 gb of ram.... The CPU Runs so hot that the laptop keeps cutting out,

I've taken up the fan and heat sink, re-applied the thermal paste ( Arctic MX-4 ) Didn't seem to work so I tried some IC Diamond 7.... Still shutting off, I've cleaned the fan, All the intakes and its just doing my nut in trying to find out what's wrong...

If the laptop crashes I can feel the base is hot and so is the heatsink... Does this mean the heat transfer is going well?

Also the fan is blowing out cold air.... No sure its running as fast as it could mind you.

I'm not really sure what to try next??

Any help would be extremely appreciated

Thanks

Tom

Maybe it just battery problem. What is your cpu temp?

Thanks for the reply,

It was just running higher and higher until it cut out.

I ended up getting a replacement heatsink... this was bent at a slightly different angle... This meant that the end was press right up tight against the output for the fan meaning the airflow could go no where else other than over the copper and out the vents... This lead to warm air suddenly be expelled from the laptop and even after doing a CPU Test from intel running the CPU at 100% for 60 seconds it never reached above 70 C Which is the temp it was idleing at previously....

I hope this might help others with CPU Overheating problems...

Thanks
