acer aspire ram upgrade

Hi I am looking at upgrading my Acer Aspire V5-571G laptop, it has 8gb of ram as standard but websites like Crucial.com offer memory upgrades when I scan my system, however the upgrade is still only 8gb.
How will changing the existing 2 memory cards that are 4gb each to the supposed upgrade that has exactly the same amount of memory improve anything or am I missing something??

That laptop caps out at 8GB of RAM. It looks like you can get a DDR3-1866 RAM module that's compatible, but that will be a pretty minimal upgrade and probably not worth the effort.

Thanks for the advice so I would be better saving the money on that upgrade and just swapping the Hard Drive for a SSD.

Yup! Going from an HDD to an SSD is generally the single biggest upgrade a laptop can get, and should make your laptop feel like a brand new machine.
