is my PC.
Computer was randomly crashing and grey fuzzy screen and then auto rebooting into 4 short beeps.

so assumed it to be the RAM. So, I unplugged and put them back in , but when booting again I just get a continuous beep.

I have unplugged everything from the MOBO, and been through the POST sticky for testing what could be the issue. The mobo doesn't beep when I have nothing plugged in , but as soon as I put the 4 pin connector in to (which I assume) goes to the CPU, the beeps start. All that is plugged in at this point is the PSU 8/4 pin connectors, fan, heat sink, CPU 4 pin connector.

HDD spins fine, RAM works fine.

Is it right to think that the CPU is gone / mobo is burnt out?

Can anything be done to fix it cheaply? Or is it not worth the hassle?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the vagueness. Ask any Q's / specifics I may have missed.

Thanks,

Liam

How many RAM modules do you have? I would boot with one at a time. One or more of them can be bad.

If you suspect the CPU the only real way to test is by putting the CPU into another system. Some questions about stuff:

What RAM are you using, make, model and speed?
What PSU are you using, make and model?
Have you upgraded it in any way like adding a new graphics card?

The page you gave us did not specify these items.

Last that case is not very well ventilated. Was it dusty inside?

It was super dusty inside so I did get rid of the dust

I believe that RAM is a dual channel which means it comes in 2 sticks. What slots on the motherboard do you have them in? Did you start with Slot 0 for the first stick and skip slot 2 and put the other stick in slot 3?

Also with the dust, how did you remove it? Did you use a can of canned air? Did you make sure the fins on the CPU cooler were cleaned out?

As for the power supply, it sounds like a cheep one which could mean capacitor pop. This will cause unstable voltages to your motherboard. You might want to get the power supply tested.

Yes, it was slot 0 and 3. I moved the 3 slot to slot 4 when the 4 shorft beeps started and that fixed it for a brief period.

I just blew inside the tower and got the dust out that way. Sorry if that makes you wince... Yes, I took the fan off, and made sure any trapped dust in the heat sink was removed.

Ah ok, is it easy enough to test? Is there something to purchase, or can I just take it to an electrical store to get tested, or...?

Thanks for your help
