Acer AST690 CPU upgrade question

Hello,

I have an Acer AST690 Desktop and I was wanting to upgrade the cpu in it but would like to get some help in figuring out what my options are.

Currently what is in it is Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2140 Conroe 1.6Ghz LGA 775 65nm (1.26 VCore)

Was wondering if Pentium Dual-Core E5400 Wolfdale 2.7GHz LGA 775 45nm (0.85V – 1.3625V) would likely be accepted by my motherboard?

Some details for the motherboard below:


Northbridge -- Intel 946PL/GZ rev. C1
Southbridge -- Intel 82801GB (ICH7/R) rev. A1

I'd like to know if that cpu would work and, if not, why? Also, what options do I have if this isnt a suitable upgrade.

You have an OEM computer. The only way to find out for sure compatibility is to look up your model on the Acer website and see what the best processor is that they have put in it. Other than that it will be a gamble and you will have to "try it and see". The Northbridge supports the processors. Now it's up to the support of the bios.
