We have an Acer ES1 511 laptop that has recently stopped booting. It is plugged in and when we press the power button the blue power-light indicator comes on, then there is a brief fan spool-up for about 2 seconds, then the power goes off. This will repeat about every 5 seconds indefinitely. There is also a very very faint flash on the screen like it's attempting to start the screen but nothing more.

I have removed the battery and tried on A/C alone, and I have also tried resetting the battery using the pinhole on the bottom.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong, or other things to try are appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Do a hard reset first, remove the battery and AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then see if it will boot up.
- If it doesn't work reseat the RAM, remove all the RAM for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure that they are seated properly into each slot.
- Next is to test your AC adapter if it's supplying enough voltage to power the laptop or better yet if you have another AC adapter that has the same voltage try it and see if it will boot up.
- If all these will not work it could mean that it's a motherboard problem.
