Question Acer gn246hl 144 hz

I'm having issues with this monitor regarding screen tearing and would like to know it's my hardware or the screen.

I currently have an i5 6500 and gtx 1060
the monitor is Acer gn246hl 144 Hz

I know that this monitor does not support gsync but would like to know if upgrading my hardware would be a good idea.
I'm thinking of getting an i7 6700 and gtx 1070 in the future. Thanks.

Make sure you are connected using DVI and the refresh rate is set to 144hz in settings. To do so,

1. Open Control Panel
2. Select "Appearance and Personalization" > "Adjust resolution" > "Advanced Settings"
3. Go to the "Monitor" tab and choose 144hz (you must be using DVI for this to work)
