Hello,

I've been playing on a dual link DVI to DVI cable connected to my GTX 1050 and my 144 hz monitor. I upgraded my GPU to a GTX 1660 Ti and it only has HDMI cables that cap my hz at 60 instead of 144. I heard that only certain monitors can support 120hz+ with HDMI but it seems like mine doesn't. If I buy a displayport to DVI cable as show in the link, will I be able to connect it to my GPU and monitor while running at 144hz?

It's possible but the adapter needs to be active and can be quite costly for an adapter nearing 100 bucks, pretty much paying half of a new monitor. DVI is being slowly phased out so it's probably time to think about a new monitor.

So basically the only way I can achieve 144hz is to find another monitor or buy a costly adapter?
Basically yes. Adapter will give you 120Hz (not 144Hz).

Or get a different graphics card with native DVI output.
Asus, MSI Evga - all of them have GTX 1660 ti models with DVI output.

BTW - GTX 1660 Super would be a better choice than GTX 1660 ti. Performs similarly, but costs less.
