My Qnix WQHD monitor with a Samsung panel is still going strong for me and I paid $300 for that almost a year ago.
I got a Catleap Q270 v. 2B a couple of summers ago. Been going strong @ 100 Hz ever since :)

Sorry, not interested in these. I'm still waiting for the Asus SWIFT at 1440p with 120hz naturally.I have an overclocked IPS panel and a native 120hz panel, and I can tell you that you can absolutely notice the difference between them.

Not sure how PiP would be a replacement for multiple monitors -- to me, the whole point of multimonitor is to have the extra pixels. Otherwise, I can just physically position the window I would otherwise be PiPing wherever I want it on the screen -- a more flexible option than PiP

I've had my dual Achieva Shimians (IPS 2560 x 1440) since September 2012 and they are still fulfilling every monitor desire I could have save 120Hz. My next monitor though is likely to be a 50" 4k TV with DP 1.2 port. I think that would be the best of all worlds...
