Acer N1996 Power Supply connector problem

Hey,

I just bought a GTX 770 and when i tried to install it I realized I dont have any cable from my power supply on my motherboard or something to give my card power.
( i know not much from computers 😛 )

so my question is. is there a way to connect another 8 pin or 24 pin to my motherboard without buying another motherboard?

its doesnt matter what it costs i just want my GPU working.

need to know your PSU specs (manufacturer/model, etc.) or the manufacturer and model of the computer if it was a pre-built unit

my computer is a pre-built and its a Acer Aspire tc-603 i8710
i hope u can do something with this information.

it appears that your computer came with a 300W PSU which is nowhere near being capable of driving your new 770 GPU, nor does it have the required PCIe connector(s) the 770 requires.

sorry im asking this much but, what PSU should do the work? and do i have to install a whole new motherboard to get the right PCIe connector? cuz it fits in the PCI slots

ok i get it, i kinda feel stupid tho... so all i have to do is buy a new PSU?
that has 600+ watts and the right PCIe connectors. well then i have found the right one i think

that should work, but I'd suggest getting a PSU from a quality manufacturer such as Seasonic, XFX, Corsair (except their CX series) or Antec. Another thing, many pre-built computer are proprietary in nature (meaning they may not follow standard dimensions and mounting holes), so make sure that the PSU select will fit your case

Careful with buying a powersupply, though. I'm currently trying to replace mine, and the power connectors are... unfamiliar to me. They don't match the standard ones I've seen...

Notice the top-left corner of your pic, that should be a 20 pin connector, but it's actually a 12 pin connector... And about midway on the left, is a +4 pin connector, but the conventional +4 pin has different "keying".

I'm still trying to figure it out myself, so be careful.

Your Acer Aspire tc-603 i8710 appears to be a European-version of the USA-version: Acer Aspire AT3-605-UR21

. . . and your power connector looks just like the Acer / Gateway proprietary 12-pin connector others have reported in these other Acer/Gateway models . . .

There are many reports of surprise, frustration, and dissatisfaction on the internet from many owners of all of these models, when they open up the PC and discover the difficulty of a PSU upgrade due to the A/G proprietary 12-pin mobo connector.

I think that it will be either very difficult or impossible to find an aftermarket / third-party power supply that comes with a plug-and-play connector that will plug into your motherboard with the correct [Acer/Gateway proprietary] pinout.

There are Dell (and maybe HP) ATX PSU's that include a 12-pin connector [e.g. Dell GM869 875W] along with a 24p connector, but I would question whether the 12p was ever intended to be the a main ATX power connector to the motherboard [unless maybe you go all the back to the days of the AT (vs ATX) connector standard?]. . Chances are that the Dell pinout will be different than the HP pinout will be different than the Acer/Gateway pinout.

With reference to a 650W Dell PowerEdge 1800 Server PSU, participant know as "hurgh" states:
"Turns out the 12 pin connector is just for for power to the SATA drives. This was obvious once I pulled the server apart... "]

But -- coming back to the Acer/Gateway proprietary-12p "roadblock" -- there are DIY workaround solutions discussed at:

I know it's a old post but my answer is for all that will look for upgrade acer predator G3-605 mainboard, PSU or GPU. This is my PC upgraded PSU be cause of the new gtx 970 everything works well but you need to make adapter form 24 to the 12 pin connector or buy it on Internet and all should be fine.

Uhm, first of all sorry for my bad english, i'm not used to it so i WILL make a lot of mistakes.
As you've already changed your setup can you maybe tell me what the 4-pin plug is used for?

in fact i'm trying to use my old Dell N875EF-00 Power Supply as i want to upgrade to a r9 290x, but as far as i can tell there is no such plug and i'm a bit confused and not sure if this plug is necessary

the 4 pin power connector is for the CPU i think, so yeah its necessary
