I am using acer nitro 5 an515-51 laptop with 1050ti 7700hq 8gb ram. I am having fps drops and so much heat on my laptop its actually burning, I am feeling fps drops when playing games. Example, lol on low grap settings looking the same area first game getting 120 fps second or others 90-80,sometimes even seeing 30 fps. is heat causing this or my laptop old ? I am thinking to buy cooling pad should i? Any advice?

Heat cause cause a nice PC to run like an old low-end one. It can also cause some damage to occur if it gets too hot for too long, Personally I do NOT recommend any cooling pads, because I have not seen one that works up to the job. (not saying they do not exists).

In some cases elevating the laptop and or putting a fan on the air intake can help with these issues. Make sure ALL of the intake ports are not blocked or hindered by objects and the air out vent has a decent amount of room to eject air. keep the laptop out of any kind of cabinet or enclosed area.

Obviously, we do not know your set up, but in general, there are a couple of things you can try:
  • Buy some compressed air (comes in an aerosol can with an attachable plastic nozzle), this can be purchased at virtually any PC or DIY store for relatively cheap, and spray the compressed air into the intake (fan) and exhaust grill. This will dislodge dust that could be restricting airflow. It is usually best to unscrew the bottom panel of the laptop when doing this type of cleaning.

A having a couple of ear cleaning buds to hand is also useful when cleaning out the intake fans.

Regularly cleaning out dust from your laptop, especially if you use it to game, is something to definitely do. Maybe once or twice a month should be fine.

  • Ensure when playing games the laptop is plugged-in to your charger and your laptop is placed on to a flat solid surface like a desk or a table. Avoid gaming where the bottom of your laptop is on surfaces like a blanket or duvet (soft surfaces), this just blocks any type of airflow from cooling the CPU and GPU.

  • A cooling pad can definitely help knock off a few degrees given that, one, the cooling pad directs air to your intake fans that are usually on the bottom, two, the cooling pad adds a bit of elevation, simply allowing the intake fans access to more available air.
