Well I just bought a ASUS PG279Q refurbished for $600 on newegg which uses the same exact panel as that acer, so they should be quite comparable I did quite a bit of research into both.
I did have some weird ghosting issues when I first got the monitor, every time I moved things got blurry. I then enabled a setting called overdrive and it all went away to the point I couldn't see it at all. As for backlight bleed well... I'm currently in RMAing my monitor right now due to horrendous backlight bleed in all four corners, I was willing to accept a bit for it being refurbished but this was absolutely unacceptable.
From my research its a total crapshoot whether you get one with a ton of bleed or none at all. I have heard acer's quality control for these two particular monitors is a bit better less people seem to be complaining about bleed than owners of the PG279Q but it is certainly not immune. All I will say is if you buy one of these monitors get it from a reputable retailer with a good RMA process like newegg and be prepared to send it back.
Other than that the panel is amazing, i came from a cheap 1080p 60hz panel to the PG279Q and it blew me away more than I expected. G sync is great I never stutter, its incredibly responsive for an IPS, and 144hz is very nice to have especially if your system can push that much frames in your games. Colors are beautiful, viewing angels are great. I really cant say enough good things about it besides the horrendous backlight bleed, really unfortunate.
For the acer in particular I didn't buy it mainly because of the way it looks, it looks over the top in my opinion and I didn't think it would fit in well in my office. Also the menus are not very good, the pg279q has a joystick to navigate the menus which is very nice if your someone who is constantly tweaking monitor settings. And I have heard the asus has more accurate colors and better overall calibration out of the box. But on the flip side I have heard they have less issues with bleed, so there is that. If I could have been guaranteed an acer with no bleed I would have certainly bought that instead.
