Hi all,

I managed to obtain two "broken" Acer Veriton S661's. After fixing both of these PCs ( the PSUs were dead ) I'm looking to upgrade the CPU, seeing as this motherboard is LGA775 what would be the best CPU suited to gaming?

I believe an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 should work, but Acer never released a complete CPU support list as this is a pre-built system.
Does anyone have any experience with this motherboard and what CPU's work best on it?

I'd also appreciate if you know of a GPU that wont be bottlenecked by the CPU, I'm thinking something like a Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti?

Thanks!

Edit: I believe only Intel Core 2 Duo's work on this Motherboard? Can anyone confirm, and if so would an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 be compatible?

Supports Socket 775 for
Intel Core 2 Quad (Yorkfield) up to Q9650,
Core 2 Duo (Wolfdale & Conroe) up to E8600,
Intel® Duo Core (Allendale) up to E2220,
Pentium D 9XX (Presler) , 8XX (Smithfield),
Intel® P4 5XX (800Mhz FSB only), 6XX,
Celeron® Dual-Core (Wolfdale & Conroe) up to E3500 and
Celeron 400 (Conroe-L) processors with 800/1066/1333 MHz FSB.

Thanks, so all of the CPU's I mentioned above would work, ( Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650, Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 ), any recommendations?

I switched out the Q6600 with the E8600 and apparently the E8600 is better than the Q9650? Although it is a dual core it does run at 3.3Ghz compared to 3Ghz, aren't most games optimised for dual cores anyway?
