Screen solid black, power LED stays solid as if it were powered on / not blinking as if in standby, plugged in to PC or not the behavior doesn't change, any ideas?

Edit: Power light is on always while plugged in, pressing the power button doesn't seem to do anything.

power adapter or regular power cord like that used by a desktop computer?

possible bad component like a capacitor on the logic board in the monitor. if it is a capacitor then it a easily fixable but if 1 of the main ic chips then not fixable except by replacing the board.

Is it more likely to have been a blown capacitor than the screen itself going out?

more likely a bad cap from the most that I worked on including this Samsung 24" I'm using on this computer.
