I have an acer aspire v3-571g 53218g75MAKK - Acer says i can only install 8gb ram but it has a HM77 chipset, which should allow for 16gb?

Solution

you can get 16GB in there. I have the same chipset but with an i7 Ivybridge processor. U can go as high as 16GB 1600 DDR3L memory, which isn't bad considering there are new laptops on the market with 4th gen processors and the same...
I haven't found any info on the Internet (other than some Hungarian website) that explicitly says this, but I think that laptop only has one RAM slot, so no going past 8GB for you.

Also, the chipset has no effect on how much RAM you can use; the memory controller is part of the processor, so it and the motherboard determine the supported RAM configurations, in this case a single stick of up to 8GB.

Thanks Voltoid. The processor is a i5 3210m and there are two ram slots...any ideas?

U should consider upgrading the processor also, u would see an immense speed increase.
