Hey TH
I have a Acer Predator G5910 which I recently upgraded to win10
It ran fine for about 2-3 weeks, but after one day where it did some normal windows updates it wouldn't boot the day after
When I switch it on, it just goes into a reboot loop where it boots up to the Acer screen (where you can press Del or F12 to enter BIOS settings or boot up order) but then goes into black screen, where the monitor says its not connected, even though there are light in the keyboard and mouse. After about 30 seconds of black screen, it reboots to the same state, and over again.
I have no idea how it have become like this

Solution
So, here we are, more than a month after last post
I bought a new gpu - a gtx 960
Plugged it in, fired up the computer and boom! not even a single problem in the start-up process
Everything, and I litteraly mean everything works like a charm now!
Hi Colif
I tried doing a clean graphics install
First I got into the pc in safe mode and uinstalled the old graphics driver, but it wouldn't let me install the new nvidia one because my computer was missing Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio, and i still cant get into the desktop no matter what I do

I don't know if you can install these in safe mode but here is a link to that c++ file you missing (I assume its the 2015 version): https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=48145

When you get into advanced startup, should try some of the repair options, like start up repair, or run SFC /Scannow from the command prompt (needs admin rights). Even with the default drivers from windows 10 you should get a desktop at end.

try installing and running this in safe mode: http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed it may tell us what is crashing the PC.

Okay, I got a little further this time
I was able to get into safe mode and use TH's software for a clean wipe of all old GPU driver software, and the pc actually booted up till the desktop! yay!
But after approx 1 min, the screen goes black, but the pc is still running, like the GPU stopped sending any signal to the monitor
I tried installing WhoCrashed in safe mode but it didn't find any errors or bugs
I have it running in safe mode atm and have been for +10 minutes with no black screen
When i go to device management, my GPU has the latest update, but my monitor driver says "Standard Non PNP screen" and place is set to Windows Basic Monitor-Driver
I think that might cause some of the troubles, but what do I know

I really appreciate your help so far

it seems to me to be a resolution problem, as the resolution in safe mode is fine but out in real world it all falls apart.

what is your monitor? name, model etc. It might need a driver to run as windows currently doesn't know what it is and is running it at 1024x768 most likely. Probably explains why it won't run windows as I suspect your gpu tries to increase desktop size on launch and it all stops working

The monitor should be showing as a Generic PNP monitor or show the makers name,

My monitor is Samsung S24D390
I tried updating the driver in safe mode, but it said it couldn't detect the monitor
and yeah, the resolution is way off, and only fills about 70% of the screen with black empty space around it

Search it, get 4k monitors... but that's just my search history as I have a Samsung 4k monitor..

I found this driver, I assume the model number has HL on end as that was all google found: http://driverswindows8.com/download.php?id=154655&model=s24d390hl&type=window-10 read the blurb, you may need to use win 8 drivers, install in compatibility mode. Site links to Samsung site so I think its trustworthy,.. maybe.

Another alternative is:

Open Device Manager and Remove the Display Driver

1 -> go into device manager
2 -> Right click on the Display Adaptor Driver and click on Uninstall
5 -> Reboot to auto install the drivers again

this might work, or it might not.

I was so hopeful about the last one...

Have you tried attaching via another output (like dvi, display port?)

I have tried DVI but somehow it doesn't even recognize that input
I am currently trying to reboot after removing the driver for it
I didn't give the an uninstall option, only deactivate or remove

Since you can get into safe mode, try to back up as much of your documents and files as you can (use a usb drive) and make sure you have everything you want to save, as you might have to try a clean install and see if that fixes it. If it still did it after a clean install, it could be a hardware fault I haven't thought of.

Monitor is only a few months old. it could still be a the graphics drivers or the power supply, or anything else. I don't know. Its not looking for a boot device, it just can't show desktop. And shows no errors from that program I linked.

I know the monitor works, because i have used it for dual screening on another desktop computer
But I tried hooking up another monitor to the Acer, an AOC e2752vq and got the right drivers installed for it, but somehow, i still cant change the resolution to 1080x1920 and it still shows that the "default" Graphic Unit is the in-built one that the Acer haves, and not my GTX 570 that is currently put in, even though the GTX 570 shows under GPU in device management

Okay, so I did a clean install of win10, got all the way to the desktop with no problems
Checked device manager, which said Windows Basic GPU under the GPU tab
Tried installing the latest nvidia driver, and boom, right back to black screen and no input

I am now open to suggestions, I don't know what the cause is, it could be psu or the gpu is dying, I don't want others to ignore this thread just cause I been answering it.

I looked for a bios for your machine and couldn't see anything after 2012. It could be that.

So machine booted to desktop without the drivers? I would take them off and try previous versions of Nvidia drivers until one actually loads to desktop.

So, if I boot into safe mode, remove the nvidia driver and reboot, I guess i should be able to get it to work
Just seem strange that this GPU will not co-operate with the system whatsoever

Im wondering if maybe a new GPU will fix the problem, i mean, the current one GTX 570 was a used one, from one of my other pc's

I would pay someone to look at the PC and install the new card (possibly even order it for you once they know its the cause), and make sure it boots into windows, and ask for an image so you can get back to a build that works if windows update decides to replace the driver with the current Nvidia driver. Lots of people complaining about it, its why I think I suggested you try a different driver.

It was looking like hardware of some sort was to blame. It was doing some weird things and it could be the gpu, it could be the drivers. without the ability to try another card in the machine, its hard to say which is more likely.

Paying for a shop to fix means they have multiple parts to test, and can narrow down the cause easier than we can. If it were me I would have thought of getting outside help by now.

I wasn't sure about the card, its the model that comes with your PC, I assumed it was the original still. I didn't even know it was 6 years old. Advice seems to be put in a 970 instead (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/918269/geforce-drivers/nvidia-geforce-gtx-570-windows-has-stopped-this-device-because-it-has-reported-problems-code-43-/). 6 years is a good life span for a graphics card, i have had cards die about same age. GTX 260 killed my Vista install in 2013

GTX 970 looks like a good choice in comparison: http://www.hwcompare.com/18080/geforce-gtx-570-vs-geforce-gtx-970/ It uses less power so that makes it easy (You shouldn't need a new psu, its powerful enough now) & will sure refresh your system.

Your CPU is still good enough to play the top games, I watched a video about it just a few days ago.

Its your choice anyway.

Yeah, well, i think no matter how i twist and turn this, it ends up in a new GPU
The one that sat in it before i put the gtx 570 in was even more rubbish, so maybe it has been a gpu fail / driver fail all along

Its a 6 year old card, driver support isn't the best for cards by then, the makers normally more interested in their new things. It could be either gpu or the drivers, but all signs show win 10 can only just see the card and doesn't really want to use it. It prefers the Intel graphics, that must be a sign.

I don't know why win 10 restarts after a while, its not giving any errors. Do you have logon set to auto so it just goes to desktop or it waiting for you to logon? You are getting no windows errors so its not likely to be software,
