I can see why this product is all alone. Why would anybody want to game on a projector? LED monitors look so much better than a colorful wall.

I have a projector to game on and watch movies with. But its full 1080p. When you have a dark room, it ats a great experience having a 100" screen. I do usually play on a 4k monitor and 4k tv though. Depends on the game and the situation.

What self respecting gamer would pay $5,000 for a short throw projector with a resolution of 1920x720... Seriously wtf? Maybe if it had a 5760x2160 resolution or even 3840x1440 would be good... But even then you would need to have gsync and more than 120hz to make it worthwhile... The price is far to high for what you would get.

On a side note though, having the ability to do a ultra wide custom wrap around screen at 3840x1440 with gsync and a high refresh rate would totally be worth spending $5k so long as the 120" curved screen came with it lol.

$5,000 is a stupid price for this, you can get a better 1080p projectors for less. I was expecting something like GSync support to justify the price, but nope.

Seems Acer really have catched up to the "Gaming" trend... make a standard product a few % better for a few cents, label it "Gaming" and take 5-10x the money for it and the sheeps will come

LOL OMFG $5000 for that! I just spent $2100 on my Sony VPL-HW40ES Sure, it's only 1080p, but in my GameRoom I've carefully calculated the throw distance, and everything. I'm going to get a perfectly calibrated 98" screen size @ 1080p. Hell, my entire budget for building the room, projector, and screen came to just over $4000.

Not sure what makes this product "all-alone" in the segment but I'm using:

Optoma GT1080 1080p 3D DLP Gaming Projector

It follows the naming convention and is only $700. Granted, it's 60Hz and contrast ratio is much less but saves $4300

Hahaha, selling 1920 x 720 as ultra-wide rather than the reality that its ultra-cropped?

Maybe I should get one of those cheapo ones off eBay, I can always run it in ultra-wide 800x300.

I'm assuming the high price comes from the fact that its laser, and there's no future income from expensive bulb replacements. Back in the day, those bulbs were $600 a pop with 2000 hour life expectancies. Gamers and avid movie watchers blew through those faster than they realized.

Epson's laser offering comes in at Full HD and $6K. I've never seen the output from a laser projector versus the traditional lamp models, so maybe there's something to it. Dunno. It has the usual buzz words like accurate color and perfect black etc etc.

I would think most people would like their projectors to disappear and blend into the room so I don't know why the red. I mean obviously branding, but I don't see how that helps it more than hurts it.

'Strange' about sums it up considering the multitude of options on the market.

Yea, it might be much brighter with better contrast. Laser headlights in the new BMW's are supposedly the brightest with the greatest spread distribution you can get, even compared to HID and LED bulbs, so maybe this projector offers value in performance.

This isn't just a regular old 720p projector. PCPer has an article that does a better job 'selling' the price. It throws a 120" screen from 18.5", 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 3,000 lumens, and 30,000 hours on the laser diode. So I would say this is geared more towards quick setup LAN parties not fixed theater/gaming rooms.

LOL. More like $500. You can get a 4k2k projector of high quality like a Sony or JVC for around $5,000.

Can you please let me know where a 4k2k projector can be had to $5,000? I have not seen anything under Sony's $15k. JVC has a 1080p that they label 4k via deceptive marketing.... Thats all I know of right now

The Sony one has dropped in price. Here in the UK i have seen them for £5000-£7000. Still not affordable, but still much better than the £15000 they launched at.

You know, if this actually used LBS, I would've considered it once the price came down. But DLP... black point will probably suck anyway.
Although... They keep saying something about "mirrorless". And the whole point of DLP is mirrors. So I wonder...
