So I’m trying to understand how to overclock ram. I have a good idea but that not enough experience. Currently I am using auto with xmp. With my TeamGroup Vulcan 32gb sticks that are rated for 4000mhz, I currently can set my bios to 3800 and they work flawlessly. Anytime I try to go above this frequency I get a “fail to boot”.

When trying to use anything lower than 3800mhz and switching to gear 1, I also get a “fail to boot”. Now like I said, I’m using auto and just choosing my frequency. The Msi “try it” feature doesn’t seem to want to work regardless what frequency.

when I look in advanced dram I can see the timings. They are 18-20-20-48. Voltage is 1.40v.

I also can’t even seem to get my Corsair rgb 3200 32gb sticks to run more than 3200.

The Corsair are dual channel and the TeamGroup are single. I’ve read that dual is better and they run in gear 1 which I also read is better. But benchmarks with the TeamGroup are higher (not by much but higher).

I am a gamer and I only use my pc for gaming. temps are great. Bottleneck isn’t an issue. I play demanding games like Cyberpunk and Star Citizen pretty much 100% of the time. I get great fps and great performance with either set of ram.

So I guess a few questions.

1:
Should I be using The Corsair Ram or TeamGroup.

2:
How can I either get the TeamGroup Ram running at its rated frequency or even adjust timings to eke out a bit more perfomance ?
Or
Is there a way to get the Corsair Ram behind 3200 maybe closer to 3600?

3:
Is it worth overclocking the cpu or undervolting it? My 4070ti is dialed in. I’ve got it working at peak perfomance but I’ve been using msi afterburner for years so I’m comfortable with it. Ram and cpu overclocking is new as this is my first non prebuilt.

Thank you in advance for all of you kind words and advice.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time? Can you pass on links to both the ram kits you're trying to work with?
That was lightning fast. Thank you. Here ya go.
