activation of windows 8.1

On my computer I had gotten windows 8 installed on it originally. As soon as I could I had updated to windows 8.1. However, now my computer is saying that i need to reactivate windows and that it expires on May 30, 2015. I am confused. I don't know if i need a new product key or what. I have never run into this problem before.

So, activate it.
If it fails via online activation, it should present you a local number to activate via the phone robot. Do that.

What sort of windows 8 disk do you have?
Common versions of windows 8:-
Pre installed Oem windows with no DVD ( use recovery disk builder program)
Oem system builder DVD from Microsoft ( 32 bit or 64 bit DVD not both)
Retail upgrade with both 32 & 64 bit dvd's

Is there a windows sticker with licence key on the PC?
If you purchased PC with windows 8 on it ask the supplier

If you got a pirate copy maybe an update enabled windows to detect an illegal key

Ask Microsoft windows activation team for help
I had a problem many years ago with win XP retail upgrade which lost activation several times . I was given a new code which cured the problem

Was upgrade to 8.1 done by Microsoft update ? Or some other way?

When i click activate online it does nothing. I built my computer and got windows 8 from a friends disc. I do not have anything with a product key to windows unless i ask him for it or buy it myself. and yes 8.1 was done by microsoft update.

So you have a pirate illegal copy or short trial version of windows 8

Go buy a licence for win 8.0 or buy win 8.1 and re install as licence keys for 8 & 8.1 are different

You need a license key. That is the part that costs money.
